$30,000 job opportunity for the young and saavy

St. Louis Post-Dispatch | By Debra Bass

I’m sure there’s a catch, but you’ll have to figure that out for yourself. I’m just the messenger.

And this job sounds like a chatty, social media junkie’s dream.

Vantage Credit Union is hiring a spokesperson for Young and Free St. Louis. The company is looking for a voice of the St. Louis 18- to 25-year-old crowd. As you would expect, the job is for someone within that age range  (thank you Equal Opportunity Employment Act loophole).

I guess veteran White House reporter and columnist Helen Thomas (pictured posing on the White House lawn in October 2007, photo by Saul Loeb/Getty Images) won’t be in the running.

It’s yet another crushing blow to spry Thomas who retired at the ripe young age of 89 and ended her reign as the longest-serving reporter in the White House press corps amid some controversy on Monday.

It also puts me out of contention, but maybe you’re interested in getting paid to write blogs, create videos, converse online and explore the city.

I’m not sure what Young & Free means, but I prefer the mature and expensive, so you’ll have to enlighten me later.

Applicants need to submit a creative, 60-second video application (there are some that have already been submitted, so the competition is on). The video is to show that you can edit and upload to YouTube.

You’ll also have to submit one blog post and completed the application form.

Application deadline: July 5

And, now, for the reason I included this job announcement in my blog. It includes a Miss America worthy prize package!

You’ll win/earn/get:

  1. An Apple MacBook Pro notebook computer
  2. An HD video camera with mic & accessories
  3. An iPhone with a one-year paid contract
  4. Use of a Young & Free Nissan Cube (I’m sure it’s really snazzy and probably embarrassingly embellished)
  5. And not least, a respectable $30,000 per year salary, plus benefits.

Apply at www.youngfreestlouis.com and you can check out the competition (Precious Boyd’s video is lovely but teaches us why external mics are important!!!). There’s also a helpful video from the are-you-really-wearing-a-diamond-stud-earring president and CEO of the credit union Hurbert Hoosman, Jr., who explains what you’ll be expected to do to win your “term” as spokesperson, but I preferred watching the bloopers.

I’m not sure what the term-limits are on the new position but the implication is, perhaps, that you won’t be young forever.
