New Year's Eve 2010-11 in St. Louis

Wow...tomorrow is the last day of 2010.  For me, this year flew by.  I spent a week in Florida in January of this year (don't be jealous, it was freezing!), and that feels like it was just yesterday.  If you're like me, you still haven't decided what you're doing tomorrow night.  Luckily, St. Louis has many, very diverse events taking place to celebrate the holiday!  Here are a few that sound pretty good to me!

Dr. Zhivegas @ the Family Arena (St. Charles). The party thrown by Dr. Zhivegas has been a long-standing St. Louis tradition for a few thousand people every year.  The band rock/disco/party band as held this event at The Pageant for years, but has finally decided to open it up to a much larger audience by moving it to the Family Arena.  Show/Party starts @ 8:00pm - All-ages - $31.00 general admission.

Duck Room Celebration @ Blueberry Hill (The Loop).  Celebrate at a St. Louis landmark for food and live music.  The Duck Room will be holding it's annual party with live music from the Fu-Pops, Nite Owl, and more.  The event features an open bar, party favors, and a champagne toast at midnight.  Doors @ 9:00pm - Show @ 10:00pm - 21+ -  $35.00 general admission.

First Night St. Louis (Grand Center / SLU area).  The largest New Year's Eve celebration takes place at Grand Center.  First Night is a family-friendly, alcohol free (except for the restaurants) event expecting over 20,000 people enjoying an evening of music, dancing, art, and more.  There is a lot to do outside, including two fireworks displays, but most of the events take place indoor.  Opening ceremony @ 6:00pm (Main Stage at Grand and Lindell) - FREE!

Cajun Celebration @ Broadway Oyster Bar (S. Broadway).  Everyone's favorite Cajun bar is throwing a Cajun celebration.  For $15.00, attendees will enjoy live music, party favors, an entree from the menu (including a special New Year's Eve menu...that includes a 12 oz. steak!), dessert, and a champagne toast at midnight.  The music starts at 6:00 pm with Johnny Goodwin and continues at 10:00pm with Aaron Kamm and the One Drops.  Event starts @ 6:00pm - 21+ - $15 cover charge.

Hidden Valley Midnight Ski (Eureka).  The local slopes are hosting their annual NYE midnight ski.  Attendees are welcome to ski, snowboard, and tube down the slops of Hidden Valley until 3:00am.  Fireworks at midnight!  Regular price admission.

Skating Party @ Steinberg Ice Rink (Forest Park).  Steinberg's annual skating event is back once again.  This year the session runs until 1:00am and includes skating and skate rental, party favors, an appetizer buffet, hot chocolate and soda, and beer and wine for adults.  Session runs 10:00am-1:00am - Buffet 7-11:00pm - Skate Admission $6, Skate Rental $4 - Buffet Cost: $20 (21+), $15 (under 21).

Party @ the Millennium Hotel (near Busch Stadium).  If you happen to have been budgeting for your NYE festivities, look no further.  Fox 2 is throwing a bash in the Grand Ballroom until 1:00am.  The party features live music from the Smash Band, gourmet hor d'oeurves, and an open bar.  At midnight, enjoy a champagne toast, party favors, and balloon drop.  Fox 2 will be broadcasting live.  8:00pm-1:00am - $99 per person - overnight package for $307.

Celebration @ the Ritz (Clayton).  Is the party at the Millennium not lavish enough for you?  Did someone give you a giant wad of cash for Christmas?  If so, you'll probably want to stop by the Ritz-Carlton.  The Grill will be serving a six-course dinner from 5-9:00pm, and later on the Lobby Lounge will be serving gourmet food, martinis, and featuring live music from The Hoo Doo Cats from 9-12:30am.  $149 per person - overnight packages starting at $299.

Still not sure?  If you're looking to save a little money this year (and stay away from all the crazies), getting a group of friends together is probably your best bet.  Tell each friend to bring a dish (and make a few yourself), hit a party supply store for party favors, and download a NYE music playlist.  If you have a lot of friends without plans, it may not even be too late to make it a formal party!

What are you doing tomorrow night?  I still haven't made up my mind!

Happy New Year's!
